Suffering from the allergies outside of your home is enough of a hassle. The last thing you want to do is suffer from allergies inside your home as well. If you have a dusty house, then it might be time for a good deep cleaning.

Dust and dander can cause allergy flare ups or an increase in preexisting allergy conditions. A deep cleaning can ensure your home’s cleaned properly and all dust is removed.

Are you not sure if your home’s dusty and in need of a deep cleaning? In the guide below, there are several signs of dust in the home to be on the lookout for. Continue reading to learn more!

1. A Musty Odor in the Home

Mold, dirt, dust, and other unwanted debris in the home can sometimes cause a musty odor. If you walk into your home an notice a foul odor, then it’s time to start searching for the culprit. Be sure to check appliances such as the washer machine, dish washer, and garbage disposal.

You should also check the walls and carpets for signs of dust, dirt, or mold. Dust and mold sometimes form in hidden places around the home. For this reason, it’s important not to forget to check in all those hard-to-see places for signs of dust, dirt, or mold.

2. Your Home’s Making You Sick

You spend time outdoors and realize your allergies might be bad due to pollen in the air. When you’re at home, though, your allergy symptoms shouldn’t worsen. Instead, your home should make you feel relieved of all the pollen outside.

After being in your home for several hours, or after lying down at night and waking up in the morning, do you notice increased allergy symptoms? Are you constantly sneezing or coughing while in your home? There could be dust lurking around every corner.

Be sure to check your ceiling fans in your bedroom and any air or exhaust vents for dust. Clean them immediately. You might also consider purchasing an air purifier for the home, which helps keep your air clean and healthy.

After a deep clean of the home and a new air purifier, you can rest peacefully knowing your home’s air is clean.

3. Finding Dust in Hidden Places

Have you started to notice dust or dirt floating out of hidden places around the home? Dust and dirt can easily hide in corners, behind furniture, on high surfaces, and more. These spots are often difficult to notice dust on because you don’t look in these places on a regular basis.

Be sure to do a complete home check for dust by checking all of those places and more. You might be surprised to find lots of dust on top of your book shelf or on the blinds. After pulling out a piece of furniture from the wall that you haven’t moved in years, you might find a good amount of dust or dirt.

Luckily, most of these areas can be easily vacuumed to help remove the dust. You can even use your vacuum tool to remove dust from blinds and curtains as well! Take that nifty tool and get into all those hard-to-reach areas where more dust might be hiding.

4. Your Air Filter Needs Changing

When’s the last time you checked your AC’s air filter? Air filters should be changed at least once every 3 months if not more. Homes with multiple people living in them, small children, or pets will need to change their air filter more often.

You can start by switching it out once every three months and then change it more often if it’s covered in dust and dirt. An air filter that fills with dust quickly is a sign that there’s a lot of dust and dander in the home. Start by changing the filter more often and then have a professional check the air ducts to see if they need cleaning as well.

Air ducts can get clogged with dust and dirt over time. When this occurs, dust and dirt will be circulated throughout your home via the air vents. Be sure to speak with a professional about having regular inspections done to prevent this from happening.

5. Cracks Around Doors and Windows

If there are any cracks around your doors and windows, dirt and dust can easily access your home. Even the tiniest of cracks can allow dust to enter. Be sure to conduct regular inspections of the seals around your doors and windows.

If you notice any small openings around them, then be sure to correct them as soon as possible. Recaulking can help seal the cracks, but special caulking should be used to prevent cracking during the cold winter months.

Another way dust easily enters the home is directly through the front door. How is this possible? The bottom of your shoes carry lots of dust, dirt, and bacteria.

Put a no-shoe policy in place when anyone enters your home. All shoes should stay outside or on a show rack located directly inside the front door. This will prevent the dust and dirt from floating around your floors and circulating into the air.
