Problem Kitchen Areas

We’re all guilty of buying fruits and veggies and forgetting about them until they’ve rotted. By leaving this rotted food in your refrigerator, you leave your good food vulnerable to bacterial contamination. Clean out all the old food at least once a month and scrub down the shelves and drawers.
If you open your oven and get hit with the smell of food or smoke, that’s a big indicator that it’s time to clean it out. You can decrease how often you have to clean your oven by hitting it with a rag every time you notice a few food splatters and other spills.
Trouble in the Bathroom

Shower and Tub
The hot water coupled with the humidity that comes hand and hand with most bathrooms can cause bacteria and fungus to fester in your shower. If it doesn’t get cleaned, you’ll leave yourself vulnerable to rashes and skin infections.
To protect yourself, you should give your shower a good scrubbing at least once a week.
Grab a toilet brush and a cleaning agent and scrub your toilet once a week. A quick brush down will be enough to stop the bowl from staining and gathering mineral deposits.
As time goes on, your showerhead gets covered in stains and mineral build-up. The good news is that you only have to take it down and clean it about once a year or so.
Soak it in a descaling solution to knock the mineral deposits loose and wipe it down with a cloth. That should be enough to have it shining like new again.
Every time you step out of the shower, your bathmat soaks up a good amount of water. This moisture is enough to attract plenty of bacteria.
Run your bathmat through the wash once a week or so to get it clean. Instead of putting it in the dryer, sit it outside and allow the sun to do it.
Spruce Up the Bedroom
On average, you spend around 8 hours a night sleeping in your room. This attracts dust mites and other allergens that can cause serious problems if you don’t do some deep cleaning.
As you toss and turn, your pillow gathers up your sweat and dead skin. To reduce odors and allergens, throw your pillows in the wash every three months.
Wash them on the gentle cycle with only a little bit of detergent. Interrupt the dry cycle now and again to fluff the pillows or include a few dryer balls to stop your pillows from getting clumpy.
Your mattress can gather up about as many allergens as your pillows, maybe even more. The problem is that you can’t dump water on it at all. You’ve got to be careful about how you clean it.
If too much moisture is allowed to seep in, bacteria and mildew will begin to form. This being said, it’s a chore that you should leave up to the professionals every 6 months.
Blankets and Bedsheets
Your bed sheets and blankets should get washed once a week if you want to reduce dust mites and stop allergy flare-ups. Like with your pillows, you’ll want to use the gentle cycle when washing your bedding.
Dry your comforter on low heat and throw in a few dyer balls to keep it nice and fluffy.
Cleaning the Living Room
Now on to the last part of your home. Your living room. There’s not as much that you have to clean in here but that doesn’t mean you should neglect it.
Carpets and Upholstery
You should hit your carpets at least once a week with a vacuum but you only have to deep clean them about every 12 months or so. You might be able to get by with only cleaning them every two years if you don’t have children or pets.
There’s a lot that can go wrong when deep cleaning your carpets and upholstery so, it’s best to have a professional do it for you.
Drapes and Blinds
Your blinds should be wiped down every three months or so to get rid of dust. Your drapes will be a little more complicated to clean so, call a professional to tackle those every six months for you.
